The Stonehouse

East Thetford, Vermont

A thoughtful connection between Vermont's architectural heritage and contemporary living.

The Stonehouse reimagines the relationship between a nineteenth-century stone farmhouse and its historic timber barn, creating a new heart for the home while honoring the character of both. A carefully detailed connector introduces a contemporary kitchen and dining space that unites the existing structures, allowing each to retain its identity while functioning as one cohesive residence.

Original hand-hewn timber framing and centuries-old stonework remain the defining architectural elements, celebrated through a restrained material palette and thoughtfully integrated lighting that reveals the richness, texture, and craftsmanship of the historic structure. Rather than restoring the past or competing with it, the design embraces its history—creating a warm, light-filled gathering space where old and new exist in quiet harmony.

The result is an intervention that feels inevitable—as though it has belonged to the property for generations.
